A Weekend in Denver: The mile-high city full of chill

Updated: Nov 8, 2019

What are the best things to do when visiting Denver? Oof, that's tough - but as one of our favorite cities to meet up with friends in, why not share a summary of thoughts based on an amalgamation of several different weekend trips!

Denver, Garden of the Gods, Nature
Garden of the Gods - a great day trip from the city!

Denver, the mile high city with the Rockies in the background and a brewery on every corner - the ideal destination for a weekend getaway (or several). We put together this little snippet to maximize chill time!

Helpful tips:

  • So much to do, but so little time - definitely take the time to wander through the various neighborhoods - each one with its own little quirks!

  • Bring sun cream, the city gets a lot of sun, and you'll want to relish in it as much as possible

  • Brewery hopping really was our favorite activity here - you'll see it features heavily in this post!

Itinerary - what itinerary? Just go with the flow of your favorites between nature, breweries, food and city strolling!

Now for the real details!

Where to stay?

  • Our hands down favorite neighborhood to stay in is RiNo (River North Arts District), very cool neighborhood with lots of food, drink and wall art

  • We've either stayed in an Airbnb in the neighborhood or at The Source

  • As a back-up, I've also enjoyed stayed in the LoHi (Lower highlands)

What to do?

  • While we've spent a good chunk of our time in Denver with a mixture of eating and drinking (outlined below) - the cool part is that there is so much nature nearby

  • Catch a concert at the Red Rocks Ampitheater. I've never been, but would 100% go if there was a concert I wanted to watch, I heard it's awesome

  • Take a drive to Boulder - some hikes you can do around there and lots more food and drink from what I've heard

  • Get out of the city with a day trip - we went to the Garden of the Gods and really enjoyed it!

Where to drink?

Where to eat?

  • When it comes to food, my favorite thing in this city is the abundance of food halls, a great way to get a smattering of different food and lounge around. A few of these are: Denver Central Market, The Source, Avanti, and Denver Milk Market

  • Before you start drinking the day away - you can grab some yummy brunch. Snooze A.M. is always hopping (though a long line) and I've enjoyed Stowaway Kitchen as well!

  • For dinner... you also can't really go wrong with loads of top restaurants to choose from. I don't have a particular favorite, but have generally enjoyed the food and vibe at most I tried

  • You should most definitely top all this off with some scrumptious ice cream at Little Man Ice Cream...was delish!

Final Thoughts

Would you recommend to your friend / family? Yes, in fact we love it so much it is on our short list for living locations

Would you return? Yes, and we already have plans to for a reunion with some friends

Favorites to speak of:

  • Lodging: The Source was quite cool, they even gave us a beer when we arrived... at 2am

  • Activity: Getting out of the city is really quite a treat and easy to do - with many options for some nature time. We chose Garden of the Gods before, but definitely planning to try others on future trips

  • Eating/Drinking: Oof... not sure, so many to choose from and continually new ones popping up
